— Pharronida. C’est là pour le point in time mon seul but.

Disclaimer: Don't confuse this book with a biography of Mary Boleyn. It's fiction all the way. It's a good read when you remember that this is fiction and not a blow-by-blow tab of historical appearances. And because it is fiction, Gregory is able to play a little fast and loose with historical fact. Mary was most likely the oldest Boleyn neonate, not the youngest as presented here. She had also served the French czars tribunal, just as Anne did, but was sent dwelling in disgrace after tales of her indiscrimination got out, including the fact that she was probably also that king's mistress. She was probably not the young, inexperienced girl Gregory chooses to portray her as. Gregory also depends heavily on Retha Warnicke's thesis that a homosexual arena surrounded Anne and included her brother George. This has been widely discredited by historians, since both Anne and George were very religious, and George was also a renowned casanova. Otherwise, it was a decent book. There were separates I thought went a little far, especially with Mary and George tutelage Anne "slut's tricks" to woo the king without actually having sexuality with him. Granted, activity like this may have happened, but I don't necessarily want to read about it. I loved the intrigue between Mary and William Stafford, and would have liked to seen more of the relationship between Anne and Henry, when they were younger, seemingly in sweetheart, and she was as much a colleague and advisor in his shindigs as king (especially in religious reasoning and such) as any he at tribunal. Somehow though, this book has tarnished my romanticized theory of courtly action. It's horrifying to consider that some of the political quarrel and the use of mothers as temptations, mistresses, and pawns to rise in society, subtitles, and the tribunal probably happened, at least to some term. If this was the nature was in those epoches, I would hope that I was a bourgeoisie. Because being in the tribunal and used as character's slave to get what they wanted with no regard for my loves or who I loved would have been awful.

I was going to throw at 2 superstar at this or maybe a 1 superstar, but the second half of the book saved it for me...as in this line, "I dreamt you were fucking a chocolate loaf."

The is a good behold at the complication that we face racing lassies. It takes an interesting behold, I can't say that I agreed with everything.

This is certainly the most "novel-like" of Dostoevsky's entireties; it's the most traditional in its style, exposition, form, scheme, blah blah blah.. This is probably why many mobs read it in secondary school (though I never did; took me until grad school to read it) and love it, but will either only touch Brothers Karamazov or Brutes in halls of knowledge, if ever. The figures are interesting and good set ups for the "big debates" of moral and philosophical dealings that Dostoevsky would conquer in further depth in his later entireties. Overall, a good movement. Were this the novel alone without the critical essays, I would have only rated this at 3 stars, but with the accompanying reviewal that puts some more scene into the reading, I'll give it a four (I actually have the 1964 edition of this, plenty scribbled in from its previous owners).
