“Dimitrov is a vital strange vitality in American poetry. ”—Los Angeles Magazine of Books“Forthright, raw, fierce with tenderness. ”—Brenda Shaughnessy “Dimitrov can sound at once smart and naive, devoted to the sincerities that other sorts of rhapsodists reject or obscure. ”—Publishers WeeklyTogether and by Ourselves, Alex Dimitrov’s second preengage of lyrics, takes on broad experiential questions and the matter of our current moment: being seemingly connected to one another, yet emotionally alone. Through a collage artistic and a multiplicity of give expressions, these lyrics take us from seaboard to seaboard, Strange York to LA, and toward uneasy questions about confidence, love, death, and the human liveliness. Dimitrov comments America’s long-lasting idée fixes with payment, superstar, and restraint—whether in our personal, professional, or tribe lives. What defines a way of life? Is love ever enough? Who are we when together and who are we by ourselves? These questions echo throughout the lyrics, which resist easy answers. The voice is both heartfelt and skeptical, bruised yet playful, and always deeply introspective. from "Irrigate"What is aging exactly? There are strange assignments and peopleand big kahuna dies before twelve noon every day. I am swimming and swimming…in May or an pond,I don’t see the justification. “But that’s unimportant,” you said. “Just keep doing it over again until in future you can’t. ”Buoyancy excites us and we know what it is every time. The records in sessions are way of life’s most undistinguished, that’s obvious. And what’s obvious makes us all foolsthen fast friends. Alex Dimitrov is the author of Together and by Ourselves (Copper Canyon Squeeze, 2017), Begging for It (Quadripartition Way Books, 2013), and the online chapbook American Youths (Floating Gorge Quarterly, 2012). He is the beneficiary of the Stanley Kunitz Prize from the American Poetry Magazine and a Pushcart Prize. This is a witty and funny blog book about being single. Sadly, it made all too much think to me.
