In the intermediate of the night, in a flophouse on a quiet lane in suburban Minneapolis, interrupters silently murder Luke Ellis' mothers and load him into a black SUV. The carrying on takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Introduce, in a room that pores over just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his gate are other doors, behind which are other razzes with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this slot the same approach Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon. They are all in Front Partly. Superfluities, Luke learns, graduated to Back Partly, "like the hemp roadhouse," Kalisha says. "You check in, but you don't check out. " In this most sinister of establishments, the director, Madames. Sigsby, and her organization are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these children the force of their extranormal gifts.
