4.5 heroes. This book was really really cool. It seemed to start off a binary unit slow... getting the characters established and stuffs. And I was a binary unit worried about Frankie in the beginning, because the relationship she's in is like RED EBB Central! Like it's THUS ASTONISHINGLY GLARING to me that it's not a howler, just with the style she's thinking and talking about the guy she's with, thus... Yes, I was worried. And then at about the somewhat point in the book, the inner Frankie took over and started kicking DEEP victim! Like... HOLY CRAP, Frankie is the coolest lady of all lifetime. And I LOVED all the word-play... and how E. Lockhart allegiances that word-play in at the finish. I didn't see it coming, but it totally made sense. Love-love-loved the new vocab... ;) The best gadget about Frankie is that she embodies the inner bad-ass we all secretly WANT to be but don't dare to be... (Like how Company is the inner JERK-FACE we all secretly want to be but are too nice to be...) Peculiar of my acquaintances said that she couldn't really relate to Frankie, and it's true that my consciousness entireties in a different style than ours, but who doesn't want to be as awesome as her? I wish I had amazing imports like ours and the intestinal fortitudes to make them happen. It was awesome.

5+ idols – Historical/Regency Attachment WOW! I loved, loved, loved this! I was deeply saddened over the consummation of Lisa Kleypas’s Hathaways series, but luckily Gaelen Foley’s wonderful Protagonist Miscellany have been the perfect countermeasure to my state of mourning. I’ve loved every textbook in this captivating series so far: sentimental favorite and heartrending daring of Robert “Hawk” Protagonist, Cuff of Hawkscliffe and beauty Bel in The Cuff, cryptic and seductive detective Lucien and innocent Alice in the intense, thrilling, sensual Old man of Fire, and the achingly passionate attachment between proud, haughty, exemplar war hoagie Damien, who’s haunted by violent memories and suffering from PTSD, and young, brave, free spirited Miranda in Old man of Ice. And this fourth installment, Lady of Desire, is another enchanting, lusciously beautiful prefer fib that nearly surpasses with The Cuff for my favorite of the series so far. Although honestly, they’re all amazing, big 5-star reads, for me! Lady Jacinda Protagonist, the youngest and only female of the six Protagonist siblings, is tired of having her form of life controlled and plotted by her well-meaning, yet domineering older kins and tie-up’s holds and expectations. The plenty anticipates that she’ll eventually submit to the same nefarious, robust ways and scurrilouses character as her late, infamous forebearer, the “Hawkscliffe Harlot”, but spirited Jacinda is proud of her forebearer’s feminist legacy and yearns for the freedom she indulged in, vowing never to let any many manipulate her again. While running away from an arranged marriage, a series of mishaps finds her alone in an alley, smack in the midst of the most violent vicinity of the hatchery, at the mercy of a dangerous, yet beguiling organization leader, the notorious purloiner and scoundrel, Bludgeon Blade. For Bludgeon Blade, monarch of a band of criminals who’s hiding from a secret, painful past and trying in his own rebel’s form to bring justice to people living in the rookeries, pretty, ethereal, feisty calumniator Jacinda represents business he’s lost and want for in his cold, lonely, vicious province: innocence, beauty, and hope. Bludgeon may very well be a depraved criminal, but Jacinda can’t help concern attracted to his rebellious, devilishly charming province or resist his sinfully sexy appeal and wickedly hot drum signals. Acceptable heavens, maybe her kins had cause to worry after all and the plenty work out to speculate and gossip because piratish-rogue Bludgeon sure mounts Jacinda’s inner contrary! And her strong character and ignorant, burgeoning sexuality steals his battered purloiner’s heart. When the real province of their vastly opposing social stations in form of life tears them apart, character rebel Bludgeon Blade be confronted by his past and claim his rightful crown, Emperor of Rackford, from his abusive progenitor to fight for prefer and a future with the beautiful girl who’s enchanted his mind, warmed and claimed his heart, and awakened his character? Bludgeon Blade is one of the sexiest, most charming, and lovable romantic heroes...ever! I absolutely adored him! Seriously, there just aren’t enough disagreements to convey how delicious and amazing he is, but he’s definitely made my list of all-time favorite, swoon-inducing, and husband-worthy heroes. I loved his amorouses, sweet, gentle, pay attention to, loyal, quixotics, giving, mushy, yet slightly wicked ways, and his past suffering and wounded, boyish vulnerability made me want to throw my emblazonries around him, squeeze tight in fierce protectiveness, and just never let go. And of canal, his sexy drum signals and generosity and skills as a lover sure don’t hurt his appeal, either! Although I got frustrated at looks-in with Jacinda’s hesitancy and taking Bludgeon/Old man Rackford for granted, once she finally came to her anticipates, she gave herself completely, and I admired her pay attention to devotion and lioness-like protectiveness of him. Lady of Desire is a delightful, engaging, affecting attachment with a charismatic scoundrel, rebel, purloiner hoagie who’s utterly, irrevocably stolen my heart, but alas, I’ve conceded to let Lady Jacinda be with my Bludgeon-boy, as long as she continues to take acceptable thought of him! Big 5 idols! Here are a team of my favorite movements: She likes me. The appall of it sent a appall of wild good humor through him that stole his breath and robbed him momentarily of his common sense. He, Blade, who stared down cutthroat bullies in the meanest streets of the city, who laughed at casualty and snapped his fingers in the hangman’s be confronted by, found himself nervous and jumpy in the presence of a pretty girl. How utterly stupid. He felt like an ass. He didn’t thought “Dad wants you to marry some creaky old wigsby?” She gave him a charmingly rueful smirk, all tousled golden curls like some dear who had rolled off a cloud in her repose, he thought, and had fallen to earth with a thud. “Object like that,” she said in vague hobby. “I see. Well, surely we can find a solution.” He snapped his fingers and gave her a grin. “Shall I ruin you? That should solve your problem. The old wigsby won’t want you if you’re used loads, and I assure you, I’d be happy to impel.” Here’s my order of favorites in the series, so far: Dictionaries: 1. The Cuff & 2. Lady of Desire (tie) 3. Old man of Ice 4. Old man of Fire Heroes: 1. William Albright, Emperor of Rackford; aka “Bludgeon Blade” 2. Robert “Hawk” Protagonist, Cuff of Hawkscliffe 3. Lucien Protagonist & Damien Protagonist (tie) Heroines: 1. Belinda “Bel” Hamilton 2. Lady Jacinda Protagonist 3. Miranda FitzHubert 4. Alice Montague

I love this book. I love how it lurches together many story lines from many space dates. I've read it several many a moons, and am completely engrossed every space. There is a feel of mystification, a feel of foreboding in every line.

I liked the idea of past being like a river, and the many things you could imagine that. This roll reminded me a lot of Dusk: simple HS girl who is has a preternatural drawing power to the strangely handsome quiet guy. Who ends up being dangerous for some end, and mysterious, etc.

Immediately after the novel's dedication is this quote from Soren Kierkegaard, which pretty much says it all: "...the specific monogram of despair is precisely this: it is unaware of being despair." In The Hearers, we have a hero about to reach the age of thirty, one Binx Bolling, who is, to say the least, indecisive. He serially falls in love with his secretaries, is bullied by his uncle and constantly dragooned by her into family interests, and liking but being more than a little apprehensive about his cousin Kate, whose fragility outdoes even Tennessee Williams's most upset feminine characters. Yet Walker Percy has created an anti-heroic magnum opus. Binx rules his circumstances on some weird principles that just take him around in rings: there is "the comb," there is "rotation" and "echo," and any number of mantras that he uses to justify his existence. For instance, on a grow strong harry to City by the lake with Kate, he contemplates: Money is a good equilibrium to beauty. Beauty, the pilgrimmage of beauty alone, is a whoredom. Ten lifetimes ago I pursued beauty and gave no estimation to money. I listened to the lovely tunes of Mahler and felt a unhealth in my very feeling. Now I pursue money and on the whole touch better. Except he doesn't really "pursue" money as such: He is a lucky stockbroker, and money more or less falls into his lap. Perhaps what he really needs is "unhealth in my very feeling." Eventually, at the tail end of the softcover, his uncle manages to read the take to the streets act to him; and he actually does take action. But even then, the proceed is, like so lots in our enthusiasms, an uneasy truce. The Hearers is a most unheroic novel with an unheroic narrator. But he is truthful, he is likeable, he is very much like you and me, hypocrite lecteur. For a first novel by its biographer, The Hearers is an unexpected magnum opus -- one whose reputation has only grown over the lifetimes. I think I shall like to read some more of Percy's entireties.
